This is to say the Northern Coast to Coast
walk originally trod by the legendary Alfred Wainwright. This walk links the
Irish Sea starting at St Bees in Cumbria and finishing aprox. 190 miles across
on the North Sea Coast at Robin Hoods Bay. This is arguably the most scenic of
all the UKs long distance walks taking in the magnificent scenery of Lakeland,
The Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorks National Park.
The recommended route is West to East and
the purists will do the walk in one stint taking roughly 18 days. However me
and my mate Paul are doing it in stints when time permits and again our
“support team” Hilary and Marje organising the stays at the various
Hostelries and picking us up and dropping us off at our designated pick up
points en-route
Well we finally finished in June 05 it only
took us 6 & 1/4 years must be some sort of a record! But I suppose with
other things in our lives births, marriages, job changes, illness and deaths
it has been an eventful few years and the walk was inevitably put on the back
burner.
It certainly proved eventful and we had
some wonderful experiences in particular we were snowed in on 2 separate occasions
not too bad when staying in a nice warm pub. The later section of the walk was
done partly out of sequence due to the weather so that may explain some
discrepancies the experts may find in the photos
